Job Description


JOB TITLE:                          Animal Care Technical Specialist         
Animal Care Technical Specialists are responsible for assuring the daily conduct of experimental protocols, technical support, the quality of animal care provided, and that processing and logistical support conducted are according to acceptable or higher levels of performance.  Employee training, and providing written assurances of training, are responsibilities of the Animal Care Technical Specialist.

  • Assure the daily conduct of experimental work is in compliance with standard operating procedures, experimental protocols and all applicable federal and state statutes and guidelines.


  • Oversee and assure the daily animal care, technical performance and scientific integrity of all projects assigned to Priority One Services, Inc. are maintained at a satisfactory, or higher, level of performance.


  • Assure that all animal, experimental and environmental samples are scheduled and collected as required by standard operating procedure and experimental protocol.


  • Maintain ongoing liaison and dialogue with principal investigators, Division of Veterinary Services personnel, and other divisional support areas to assure optimal care of laboratory animals and proper conduct of special experimental protocols.


  • Perform weekly inspections of animal rooms, processing areas, logbooks, records and automated data collection reports for assurance of compliance with established standards and experimental protocols.


  • Provide written documentation of any deviations from experimental protocol or established standards.


  • Maintain adequate inventories of supplies necessary for the efficient operation of the work area.


  • At the direction of the Area Supervisor, monitor the activities of the area, including scheduling and assignment of duties to employees.


  • Conducting and supplying written documentation of training sessions for foremen, technicians, and production aides to assure adequate levels of expertise prior to assignment of specialized tasks and procedures.


  1. All Animal Caretakers within their respective area.


  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Literate in written and spoken English
  3. American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) with at least 3 years experience in an animal facility or equivalent experience.
