Seeking an ICD Animal Health Technician II for the National Cancer Institute/National Institute of National Human Genome Research Institute in Buildings 10, 49 and 50 under the direction of the NCI/NHGRI Cancer Genetic Branch. Candidates must be able to work independently and communicate well with a wide variety of people. Candidate shall be certified or able to be certified at the AALAS LAT level or have an LVT. Applicant will be required to obtain a LATG certification within 1-4 years, depending on experience, if not certified. Candidate must also have at least two years of rodent experience. Candidate must have a minimum of two years experience working with mice. Candidate should have experience with animal husbandry/caretaking procedures and be able to perform the following duties: (1) Humane handling and restraint of mice for various protocol-related manipulations; (2)Monitor health and well-being of animals; (3)Set up/monitor mouse breeding as needed to include routine plug checks; (4)Routine technical procedures such as sex identification, tail snips, ear notches, and weanings; (5)Colony management of a variety of inbred transgenic mice; (6)Maintenance of detailed colony records. Must be able to lift 40lbs to 60lbs, climb, stoop, bend, reach, and stand for prolonged periods. Must be responsible and reliable to work independently and maintain good customer and team relationships (e.g., investigative staff, care staff, etc.). Must be available to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Must have a working knowledge of veterinary medicine and technology (first aid response, pharmacy and pharmacology, physiology, physical examination, and treatment under the direction of a veterinarian) with mice. The candidate must have technical experience and competency in anesthesia and surgical support to include IV, SQ, IM, and IP injections (including tail vein and retro-orbital route), anesthesia induction, maintenance, and recovery using injectables and inhalants. Perform aseptic surgical procedures, provide assistance with investigator(s) with technical procedures in biologic sample collection, blood, urine, feces, tissues, tumor harvest (Primary and secondary sites) and staged embryos. Experience with approved euthanasia techniques for various ages of mice and be able to perform formalin perfusion on deeply anesthesized mice for tissue collection. The ideal candidate will have experience in laboratory procedures in order to assist with various imaging modalities (e.g., Faxitron x-ray analysis, Mouse Imaging Facility). . Formal education shall include a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Demonstrated math and reading comprehension and good English oral and written communication skills are required. Demonstrated working knowledge of computers and associated software (Microsoft Word and Excel) is required. Must possess a valid United States driver’s license. Currently seeking Aquatic Specialist with specific experience working with Zebrafish, must have an aquatics background or a B.S. degree in Marine Science. Qualified candidates will be responsible to; perform animal husbandry tasks; sanitize animal holding rooms; perform health checks on animals and reporting any abnormalities to the attending veterinarian; prepare and provide feed to animals; change and clean tanks; maintain colonies of both transgenic and wild type fish, set up multiple weekly matings, track mating progress both manually and using a database spreadsheet; perform timed egg collections in support of ongoing research; perform regular egg collection to ensure future mating generations; wash eggs, in a multi stage cycle, to rid of external parasites; submit and track regular pathological test to ensure fish health and, food and water quality; assist in the design and maintenance of aquatic housing systems; perform water quality tests; maintain detailed animal health records on a computer; perform prescribed treatments on laboratory animals; monitoring the aquatic animal environmental parameters of each animal holding room (e.g. temperature/humidity, light cycles, room and water temp., pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen); check all aquatic support equipment and perform preventive maintenance tasks; provide accurate census counts of animals and equipment; prepare and transport animals; and schedule, stock, and maintain the facility.
